IN THE LAND OF THE MESSAPI

The lands of Negroamaro

In the calcareous-clay soils of Salento and the Mediterranean microclimate, Negroamaro finds the ideal conditions to express its structure, balance and aromatic complexity.

The name Negroamaro, deriving from the dialect word Niuru Maru (“bitter black”), reveals its essence: a wine with a deep, almost impenetrable color and a decisive character capable of combining elegance and intensity. The grapes, selected by Masseria Messapia, come from historically suitable areas and are cultivated with sustainable practices thus respecting the typicality of the territory.

Each bottle represents the synthesis of a deeply rooted yet constantly evolving winemaking culture capable of enhancing the Mediterranean essence of the grapes. The sensory profile is distinguished by its intense color, ripe tannins and notes of red fruit, balsamic, and spice.

Once destined for blending with the great wines of Northern Italy and France, Negroamaro has now regained its place of honor thanks to the expertise and the sensitivity of Salento winemakers. In its pure form, it expresses the depth and brightness of this land like few other varieties.

SOUL OF SALENTO

The wines

Masseria Messapia reinterprets Negroamaro in a contemporary and informed way: red wines with remarkable structure and longevity, capable of evolving gracefully over time, and rosé wines crafted using the traditional Salento “legatura” technique, recognisable by their coral hue, full body, and balanced aromas. Each bottle captures the voice of an ancient and generous land, where the vines “breathe” the sea air and time moves slowly, following the authentic rhythms of nature. Negroamaro by Masseria Messapia is more than just a wine: it embodies a winemaking culture that continues to evolve while honouring its Mediterranean roots.
